Those who follow me on instagram may know that about a month and a half ago I went to Auckland (from the sneaky peeks of the retail therapy aftermath). I never really let on why I was there, and it turns out I was lucky enough to be doing a little bit of work experience at Your Home and Garden magazine. Which I am SO stoked about by the way!
One of the amazing stylists Vanessa Nouwens took me on as her styling assistant in the photography studio for a few days and I had an absolute blast. I got to learn a lot about the behind-the-scenes stuff of being a stylist. I really really loved it, and yesterday the magazine came out with all the shoots I worked on in it! I'm so excited to show you all!
The main shoot was a christmas table layout using alternate colours, where I helped style a buffet style table and all the little details with a green and ply wood theme. This one took a whole days work to unpack the products, style, photograph then pack away again.
Vanessa had these gorgeous ply triangles that we used as the trees, and lots of goodies for the buffet table. I loved branching out of my usual colours for this one, because you all know green is not my fave - but I loved it!
Second was a 'ways with' page where it gave ways with washi tape. This one I'm quite excited about because my name is actually on the page. omg guys. It's in the bottom left corner if you can see it!
I stuck the washi tape onto the wall in the shape of a reindeer then styled the presents on the little table. It was amazing seeing how many products are used for everything, Vanessa collects boot-loads of gorgeous things the day before the shoot. I loved seeing how professional flat-lays work too, and I found that the process was quite similar to my own!
Last was a 'ways with' fimo clay. This one I love because it looks like marble - the stylist Vanessa and I both have identical style so she could tell which ones I was obsessed with. I mainly just watched this one come to life and ran around getting different plates, paper and accessories. Vanessa made all of these with fimo - they are just amazing, I adore the marble effect!
I had so much fun seeing what it was like to be a professional stylist, and I want to thank Vanessa for having me on board for a few days! It was so interesting to see the behind the scenes aspects of a shoot for a magazine, and so rewarding when you see it in print. I'm so grateful for the experience!
